Washington, Oct 29 -

(WASHINGTON, D.C.)----Coming in at just under 2,000 pages, and costing about $1 trillion, U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC) said that today’s rollout of the Democratic leadership health care bill did not convince him to change his position on his opposition to government-run health care.  Congressman Coble said he will oppose any effort to pass a sweeping government takeover of health care, but remains committed to working on bipartisan solutions to fix what is broken.

“After weeks of meeting behind closed doors, Speaker Pelosi today unveiled another government-run health care plan,” Rep. Coble stated.  “The Pelosi health care bill will raise taxes and add to our national debt, while doing nothing to rein in the rising costs of health care.  Their plan will hurt America’s seniors, families and small businesses.  I am afraid that this so-called reform will cost jobs and worsen our unemployment situation.  With the jobless rate at 10% nationally, I wish the Democratic leadership in Congress would focus on creating new job opportunities for those out of work.  I remain committed to improving the delivery of health care in the United States, but a government takeover of one-sixth of our national economy is not the way to do it.”
